    Family, Career and Community Leaders of America
    , also known as FCCLA was founded in 1945 and has approximately 220,000 members nationwide. The mission of FCCLA is to promote personal growth and leadership development through family and consumer sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader, members develop skills for life through-- character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge and vocational preparation.

     

    Some school-wide projects that EK FCCLA members have completed this year include:
    • Raising Awareness of Safe Driving through developing the East Knox FCCLA Youth Safety Council
    • Organizing and implenting the annual Veterans Day breakfast and assembly
    • Working together with community partnerships to offer volunteer opportunities for chapter members to give back in their school and community
    • Helping to invite guest speakers into the school for motivational purposes
    • Participating in Ohio FCCLA's State Outreach Project: The Ronald McDonald House, where we prepared a meal for the residents of the house, collected pop tabs to help offset the cost of operating the house, collecting donations and putting together hospitality bags for the residents of the Ronald McDonald House
    • Educating eighth graders and children at a local preschool about child and childcare safety
    • Sponsoring canned food and toy drives for the holiday season
    • Sewing baby blankets and making child safety kids for new parents at the Knox Community Hospital
    Some LEADERSHIP opportunities for FCCLA Members:
    • Attend District Meeting at the Mount Vernon Nazarene University and work with other Knox County Schools on FCCLA programs and projects
    • Attend the Career Day with the Columbus Blue Jackets where students learn about the various careers that are present in the professional sporting arena
    • Having the opportunity to work with students of Ridgemont FFA to participate in the Ohio Safe Driving Summit, where we worked to create a plan for a safe driving program in our school and community
    • Participating in the Ohio FCCLA State Leadership Camp to bring back ideas to our chapter to better our school and community
