Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,
I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Greg McDonough and I am honored to be your teacher this year. This is my ninth year of teaching but first year at East Knox and I am very excited to be here. My prior teaching experience includes Mount Gilead, Highland and ECOT where I have taught more high school level math courses then I can list. I graduated high school from Big Walnut High School in Sunbury in 1994. I then attended The Ohio State University and in 2001 earned a degree in Computer Engineering and worked as a computer programmer for the next 5 years. In 2006, I went back to school and enrolled in the Bachelor's Plus program through Ashland University to become certified to teach high school math. Math has always been one of my favorite subjects and I also enjoy working with people. I'm very lucky in that being a teacher allows me to do both.
My approach to education focuses on a thorough understanding of each common core state standard. Students will have multiple opportunities to re-take quizzes on each standard prior to taking the unit tests and semester exams. Once we complete a unit, the quizzes will no longer be available for re-takes. Therefore, it is important that students attend class, complete all assigned work and come in for extra help if needed. I will be available both before and after school for students who need additional support.
I believe that communication is the key to a great student-parent-teacher relationship. I encourage parents and guardians to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time. You can reach me via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or call me at (740)599-7000 x2039. I will also do my part by keeping google classroom and the powerschool grade book up-to-date. For individual concerns, I will contact you by phone, send a note home, or email you (if an email address is provided).
